MTS to invest $200m in CIS countries

Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) is going to invest a total of $200m in its network development in Ukraine and Turkmenistan. The company’s technological partner will be Nokia Solutions & Networks (NSN). Until 2014 the Finnish company will deliver to local MTS departments over 6,000 base stations, which are capable to work in GSM, 3G and 4G networks. It is rumoured that a quarter of purchased BTS MTS is going to install in Turkmenistan and the remaining three quarters in Ukraine. However, the cost of the BTS might be about 50% of the contract, while the other 50% is the service, maintenance and upgrade of the network to the 4G level. At the end of June 2013 MTS served 21.6m and 1.9m subscribers in Ukraine and Turkmenistan respectively.

Meanwhile, MTS informed that it plans to pay interim dividend to its shareholders. A total sum of the dividend is estimated at RUB 30.17bn (€0.69bn). MTS revenues amounted to RUB 86.46bn in Q2 2013.
