GLONASS in the next 14 regions of Russia

The Ministry of Transport will sign an agreement concerning subsidies from the federal budget for implementation of GLONASS system in the next 14 regions of the Russian Federation: Amur, Astrakhan, Vladimir, Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Ryazan, Tver and Tyumen regions, the Republic of Buryatia and Kalmykia, Krasnoyarsk, Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krai.

GLONASS is a space-based satellite navigation system operated by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces. It provides an alternative to Global Positioning System (GPS) and is the only alternative navigational system in operation with global coverage and comparable precision. The development of system in new regions of Russia will help in providing information and navigation road routes passing through the Russian transport corridors “North-South” and “East-West”. It aims at improvement of transport safety and quality of passenger services and also the development of commercial services with the use of navigation technology.
