Last week PMR visited the newest data centre of Beyond.pl – Data Center 2. The company's first data centre, offering a net floor space of 384 m², was constructed in Poznan in 2007. It is located in the city centre, in the underground (Level -2) of the shopping centre ''Stary Browar''. In 2016 the company kicked off its new facility. As regards the costs of the whole investment project, they exceeded the PLN 100m threshold, with PLN 31.5m subsidised. The facility is located at ul. Dziadoszanska 10 in Poznan. Unlike the first data centre, Beyond Data Center 2 is located on city outskirts. The location is characterised by good transport connections with the highway and the airport. The total net colocation space of the new facility stands at 6,300 m², what makes the data centre the biggest one in Poland. The investment also means that Beyond.pl has been presently ranked in the top three largest commercial data centre providers in Poland (besides ATM and T-Mobile Polska).
Moreover, at the beginning of November 2016, Beyond.pl officially confirmed that it was assessed and found to conform the requirements of ANSI/TIA-942:2014 Rated 4 (the scope included architecture, mechanical, electrical and connectivity components) and an appropriate certificate for a server room located in the facility was issued for the period from November 2016 till November 2019. In fact, this is the first certificate at the level 4 issued in the Central Europe.
What is more, Beyond.pl Data Center 2 is the only commercial facility in CEE with two different supply systems: rotating mass generators (Diesel Rotary UPS) and standard UPS battery system with generators. The data centre has also two different cooling systems: traditional (wet chillers) and adiabatic cooling system, installed on the second floor. Such a solution is rare in Poland, but used in the world's most innovative data centres, e.g. those of Facebook.
Beyond.pl Data Center 2 was designed and constructed to be able to deliver services at PUE 1.1 or 1.4 depending on the clients’ needs. Despite the fact the facility has just been opened and is far from being fully packed with racks, Beyond.pl officials confirm they can now grant PUE 1.1 in commercial contracts. Clients will be able to separate and arrange floor space in a manner corresponding to their needs. The available power for the facility is 14 MW (2 x 7MW).
Beyond.pl also plans to develop disaster recovery services and for this reason the investment discussed above will include about 900 m² of office space (currently the construction works are being completed)– to be used as clients' back-up offices, a parking lot with about 60 spaces, as well as a storage room of about 500 m², including waste storage. The facility is adjusted to handling deliveries by large vehicles. While planning its investment in Data Center 2, Beyond.pl also prepared a neighbouring plot of land for another facility of a similar size.
