Hungary: rise in IPTV and cable subscriptions

The interest in cable and IPTV services in Hungary is rising, according to National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH). The number of cable and IPTV subscribers reached over 2.3m in February 2017, which was almost 4% more than in the corresponding period in 2016. Furthermore, over 60% of viewers opted for digital services. At the same time, the number of the MinDigi pay-DTT subscriptions stood at 100,853 in February 2017, which was almost 1.5% less than in February 2016. Additionally, over 860,600 people used DTH services at the beginning of 2017. When it comes to the market share in the pay TV market in Hungary, UPC remains the leader with 27% (+0.1 p.p.),followed by Telekom with 25.9% (+0.5 p.p.) and Digi with 25.4% (+0.7 p.p.).
